Safety & Security

RIDE strives to foster a safe and secure experience abroad for all of our programs. Our meticulous risk management system is in place to ensure that program participant safety and security is handled with the utmost care and attention to detail.

Safety is Our Priority

Ensuring the safety and well-being of RIDE International's study abroad students is paramount. In East Africa, we institute stringent safety measures to safeguard students during their time abroad.

Students participating in our East Africa study abroad programs are mandated to enroll in a comprehensive health and travel insurance plan, affording them emergency medical care and support services when needed. We conduct meticulous risk assessments of study abroad locations beforehand, encompassing factors like crime rates, health risks, and local emergency response capabilities. This informs the creation of tailored safety plans, equipping students with guidelines for remaining secure and handling emergencies.

We equip students with comprehensive information about local customs, laws, and practices, empowering them to make informed decisions. We also offer 24/7 emergency support services through International SOS, staffed by crisis management professionals dedicated to assisting students around the clock. Through these measures, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our study abroad students, ensuring their experience in East Africa is both secure and rewarding.

Security Measures

RIDE students receive thorough pre-departure training encompassing personal safety, security awareness, and emergency protocols, preparing them to navigate potential risks abroad. We maintain continuous communication with local authorities and partners in East Africa to stay updated on security risks and respond swiftly to any incidents. Our robust emergency response plan is primed to address crises like terrorism or civil unrest.

To bolster security, students are equipped with emergency contact information for local hospitals and police. Our 24-hour emergency support line (International SOS) stands ready for immediate assistance. We consistently assess security situations, adjusting procedures accordingly, such as altering itineraries or implementing increased security measures when needed.

In closing, our unwavering commitment is to foster a safe environment for study abroad students in East Africa, prioritizing comprehensive security procedures to mitigate travel risks and enable students to fully engage in their studies and experiences abroad.

Student Wellbeing

At RIDE International, the holistic wellbeing of our participants is at the core of our programs. We believe that a truly enriching experience encompasses not only physical safety and security but also emotional, mental, and social wellbeing. Our approach to student wellbeing is built on fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that empowers participants to thrive during their time with us.

Comprehensive Support: From the moment participants express interest in our programs, we prioritize their wellbeing. Our pre-departure orientation equips participants with tools and resources to navigate potential challenges, manage cultural adjustments, and maintain their mental and emotional health while abroad. We encourage open communication and provide avenues for participants to express their concerns and needs.

Cultural Immersion with Care: While cultural immersion is a transformative aspect of our programs, we understand that it can also bring about cultural shock or adjustment challenges. We address this by incorporating intercultural training that prepares participants for cross-cultural interactions and encourages respectful engagement. Our programs also include regular check-ins to ensure participants' emotional and mental wellbeing is nurtured.

Inclusive Community: Creating an inclusive and supportive community is fundamental to our approach. We facilitate meaningful interactions between participants and local communities, fostering relationships that enhance understanding and connection. Additionally, our staff is trained to recognize signs of distress and to provide guidance and support.

Wellbeing Resources: We provide access to wellbeing resources, including mental health professionals who are familiar with cross-cultural challenges. Participants can seek confidential support if they experience stress, homesickness, or other emotional concerns.

Through our holistic approach to student wellbeing, we strive to create an environment where participants not only learn and grow academically and culturally but also flourish emotionally and socially. Our commitment to their overall wellbeing reflects our dedication to providing a transformative and enriching experience that extends beyond the physical safety measures we implement.

Risk Management Strategy

At RIDE International, the safety and well-being of our participants is paramount. Our comprehensive Risk Management Strategy is designed to proactively address potential challenges and ensure a secure environment for all those involved in our programs. Here's how we approach risk management:

  1. Pre-Program Assessment: Before any program takes place, we conduct a thorough risk assessment of the destination, evaluating factors such as political stability, health considerations, and local conditions. This assessment informs our decision-making process and helps us develop comprehensive safety plans.

  2. Comprehensive Safety Plans: Our safety plans are tailored to each specific program location, taking into account local conditions, potential hazards, and emergency response capabilities. These plans include guidelines for participants on how to stay safe, as well as protocols for addressing emergencies.

  3. Emergency Response Training: All participants receive comprehensive pre-departure training that covers personal safety, security awareness, and emergency procedures. This training equips participants with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively in various situations.

  4. 24/7 Support: We maintain 24-hour emergency support services for all our programs through International SOS. This service is staffed by trained professionals who are available to assist participants in case of any emergency, ensuring a swift and effective response.

  5. Regular Monitoring and Communication: Throughout the program, we closely monitor local conditions and stay in constant communication with our partners, local authorities, and participants. This enables us to quickly adapt to any changing circumstances and provide participants with up-to-date information.

  6. Local Contacts and Partnerships: Our strong partnerships with local communities, authorities, and institutions enable us to access real-time information and resources. This network ensures that we are well-prepared to manage any situation that may arise.

  7. Continuous Improvement: We regularly review and update our risk management strategy to incorporate feedback, lessons learned, and best practices. This ongoing process ensures that our programs remain safe and effective.

RIDE International's Risk Management Strategy reflects our commitment to creating a secure and enriching experience for all participants. We understand the importance of proactive planning and preparation to ensure that everyone involved can fully engage in our programs with confidence.
