Working to preserve and protect the diverse marine and coastal ecosystems of Kenya, empowering local communities and promoting sustainable development for a harmonious coexistence between humans and nature
Fighting Climate Change & Supporting Local Conservation Efforts
Location: South Coast, Kenya
Purpose: RIDE's Coastal Conservation Initiative in Kenya's South Coast is a dynamic force for change, igniting a transformative movement that harmonizes community and nature. With three impactful projects, we are poised to create a lasting legacy of conservation and empowerment.
Our first project advocates for community-led mangrove reforestation and innovative carbon credit ventures, empowering local communities to become environmental stewards and guardians of their coastal ecosystems. In our second project, we focus on increasing the marketing capacity of women seaweed farmers, empowering them to rise as leaders in the sustainable seaweed industry. Lastly, the Tiwi Sea Turtle Police project aims to expand the group’s scope and reach, protecting these magnificent creatures and their nesting sites from threats.
By promoting sustainable practices, we secure a greener future for generations to come. Together, let us rally for the preservation of Kenya's South Coast, where community-driven conservation meets empowerment, and nature and humanity dance in harmony. Join RIDE in shaping a brighter, sustainable future for the coastal wonders we cherish, and become a catalyst for change in one of the world's most precious ecosystems.
Coastal Conservation Projects
-
Reforest mangrove woodlands
This project aims to restore and protect mangrove ecosystems along the Kenyan coastline. Through community-led efforts, we plant and nurture mangrove saplings, promoting biodiversity, mitigating climate change, and providing essential habitat for marine life and coastal communities.
-
Support women seaweed farmers
We empower women in coastal communities by providing training, resources, and market access for sustainable seaweed farming. By cultivating this valuable marine resource, we promote economic independence, gender equality, and environmentally friendly practices, creating a win-win for communities and the environment.
-
Expand scope of sea turtle police
The Tiwi Sea Turtle Police force plays a crucial role in protecting endangered sea turtles and their nesting sites. With community involvement, we expand the scope of our patrols and conservation efforts, ensuring the survival of these magnificent creatures and preserving the marine ecosystem for future generations.
